As of 2026, the structure is tiered: both plans start cheap and scale up with speed or data. There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and — in select areas — no upfront hardware cost at all.

The 100 GB and 300 GB Roam plans (and the two lower Residential speed tiers) are data- or speed-capped; only the top tier in each family is effectively uncapped. If you expect heavy use, plan for the top tier.

Prices differ by country because of taxes, regulatory costs, and currency. The tier structure is the same everywhere; only the currency and exact amounts change.
The one-time equipment cost
Starlink currently advertises no upfront hardware cost in select areas. Where that promotion doesn't apply, you pay a one-time kit fee — in the UK, hardware starts at £179 for Roam. The same dish works for both the Residential and Roam plans, so you don't need a second device if you switch plans later.
There's no rental fee and no mandatory equipment return: once you own the kit, it's yours. The main piece of advice is to check the hardware price shown at checkout for your specific address, because the promo coverage varies by region.
What a first year actually costs
A realistic example: a US household on Residential 200 Mbps ($85/month) that pays a one-time kit fee of a few hundred dollars spends roughly $1,000–$1,200 for the first year of service plus hardware, then $85/month after that. If the no-upfront-hardware promo applies, the first year is just the $85/month.
By comparison, a seasonal Roam user on 100 GB ($55/month) who only uses it six months of the year pays about $330 for the year in service, because the plan pauses when they don't need it.
There are no hidden monthly fees, no data-overage charges on Residential, and no contract term. Taxes and any regional shipping are extra, as with any purchase.
How the free month works
Starlink runs an official referral program, and that's the only legitimate discount on the service — there are no promo codes at checkout. Order through a referral link, pay your first month normally, and after 30 days of active service Starlink credits your second month in full. For a Residential Max subscriber, that's a $130 credit.
